KOLJANDER CHRISTMAS NEWSLETTER 2011
Simply the best – for the 14th time! – To our delight Koljander was awarded Best Home Industry in the Best of Johannesburg competition for the 14th time. We are obviously exceedingly proud, but our gratitude goes to you, our supporters, who voted for us. Thank you from all at Koljander. We undertake to continue to deserve your support.
Ozzie’s Toffees - Koljander’s by now famous caramel toffees have been made for more than 30 years by the same young lady. According to Ozzie her toffees are so popular because they are made with real butter and full fat condensed milk, but she assures us that they are totally non-fattening.
Christmas is a-coming – Since the shop had been “dressed up” for Christmas 2011, we have once again realised that Koljander is truly the One-stop Christmas Shop in Johannesburg since 1980. Apart from the wide offering of Christmas baking, we also provide an extensive range of gifts. Some are uniquely created by our members, and others are sourced from different suppliers and sold at a very good price – usually the best price in Johannesburg.
A Gift Hamper always hits the mark. Talk to Christi – she will pack a basket or gift bag with whatever you instruct us to include and we can also deliver on your behalf. Why not surprise friends or family with a delivery on Christmas Eve?
Traditional Christmas baking - The shop is full of lovely Christmas Fruit Cakes baked by different members. You can have them iced or not, and can even order one without brandy. The variety of Christmas baking is huge and includes Ilse’s quality Quark Stollen, which contains cream cheese, orange peel, raisins, rum, almond flour and tasty marzipan. Koljander’s traditional Christmas mince pies, with short or puff pastry, have been a top class Christmas item for decades, still made by the Geytenbeeks. Our German ancestors did not only leave us a rich inheritance in the best Christmas music, but they also cultivated our taste buds for their Christmas biscuits, such as the Zimtsterne (with cinnamon, almonds and hazelnuts), and crunchy Weinachtsplätchen in various shapes, made with butter and richly spiced. A wide selection of other tasty biscuits and rusks are also available in gift presentations.
Closer to Christmas - Some items or products will only be available closer to Christmas. These include our rich Christmas Trifle which June can prepare in your own brag bowl or in the attractive bowls which she includes in the price. Another delicious dessert for the Christmas dinner is the Tiramisu. The popular Chocolate Salami, which is pure indulgence, will go well with coffee and liqueur. For the children, Maritha promised to bake very special Christmas Cup Cakes closer to the day, as will Maryna with her beautiful Christmas Fruit Ring. Make sure that you order these products in time.
Gifts from the heart - The best value-for-money finds are in the Christmas Market, where everything is below R20 this year! For more than three decades, this very special Christmas Market is a true treasure for people who need small gifts for colleagues at work, place setting gifts for the Christmas table, or just stocking fillers. The Market is exceptionally good this year with loads of value, which is what everyone needs in a recession. Take note that we have extended the Market to the Children’s section with a very special Children’s Christmas Market. Remember to hang a couple of our little sweets-filled felt stockings on the tree.
Interesting additions this year are the Wendy and Doll’s Houses. These come boxed to be assembled, and can honestly be put together by a child. The lucky recipient can invite friends over to help colour in the house and have lots of fun while parents can enjoy some peace. Look at the example that we have on display high up in Koljander. Remember also to have a look at Annemarie’s robust decorative wooden items, as well as the colourful decoupage work of Alex and the beautiful pewter items of Marleen.
We have not forgotten the men in our lives, those noble creatures who, during the holiday season, are slaves to the family’s wants and whims. There is a special “Men’s Corner” with masculine gifts, brandied fruit, liqueurs, etc.
Our Christmas decorations this year are made from a wide variety of media ranging from metal, porcelain, pewter, glass, crystal, felt and wood, in bright colours, white, silver and gold. Once again we also have a selection of Christmas table cloths, designer napkins and interesting napkin rings. For the finishing touch, Anneke’s stylish candles will bring light to the affair. Heartwood Creek figurines, are again available from us at undoubtedly the best price in Johannesburg. Why not start building a family tradition with these collectables.
Koljander once again supports Huis Hoëveld and Woodside Sanctuary with the annual Christmas stocking drive. Every R5 in the large stocking gives you a chance to win the super gift bag with R350’s worth of goodies. The draw is on 24 December, but the content will be fine well into the new year.
May you enjoy peace, joy and love during this special season!
